In school year 2005-2006 Library Assistant Janet Phillips enjoyed working on outreach programs to the schools.  The programs ended April 25th, 2006.  Janet met with groups of students at Jemez Valley Elementary. She coached a team for Battle of the Books and encouraged reading and discussion of Land of Enchantment (LOE) books, a special book list developed for young people by the New Mexico State Library.

Other programs may be offered if requested next school year.  Please check back here for future programs. For more information, call Judith at 829-9155.

Here's what the kid's at the LOE Book Club are saying about reading...

You Said It!

“My favorite story is when Thomas Tank meets this train. He’s really mean and he’s the biggest engine and he says “Get out of my way!” ”  Austin

“My favorite book is about a guy who wants to find the mummy that wasn’t robbed yet.  There are real pictures of mummies in it.”  Tut’s Mummy: Lost…and Found  Kirstin

“My favorite book was Week in the Woods.” Janice

“My favorite book is the Guinness World Records.  It has lots of stuff in it, like the biggest Lego castle.”  Andres

“Togo is my favorite book because it’s about wolves that run on the side of the house and they run up the house and jump off the house.  They take this guy riding on the sled.  They get caught in a storm and they have to get across this river before it breaks and get this medicine and bring it back to this guy.”  Edgar

La Llorona is my favorite book because she cries all the time for her kids and my favorite part is when she kills the kids”.

La Llorona  - I like that book because it was kind of scary and she acts so perfect, and she wants to marry somebody that she thinks is perfect.  I like the part where she goes crying by the banks of the river – that’s my favorite part.”  Natisha

“My favorite book is Say What because in the beginning the girl’s little brother told her mom that she kicked her own leg.”   Jeannette

“My favorite book is The Secrets of Droon.  It’s my favorite book because it has magic in it.” Gabriella

“Well, I really have two favorite books.  But one of my favorite books is called No Dogs Allowed by Bill Wallace.  It’s about a girl whose horse dies, and she is so sad that she never wants to get another pet again.  But for her birthday her parents get her a little puppy and she learns to like the little puppy and so she starts liking animals again.  I like all the Harry Potter series.  I’m reading the 5th one right now.  I think the third one The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite.”  Sage

"My favorite book I should say would be Where I’d Like to Be.  It was one of my favorites because the girl was almost just like me.  I also liked No Small Thing.  It’s about a boy and a horse.  The horse is about to get sold, but then the owner, Nathaniel, runs off into the forest with him.  And that would be one of my favorite books."  Rachel W.

"Dead House is my favorite book. It is actually the first one of the Goosebumps books.  It is very, very scary.  Its creepy and it tells a lot about ghosts.  It’s about this family that moves to this neighborhood that is haunted and they make new friends.  But they don’t know their friends are ghosts and they need to suck their blood because every year they need to have somebody else’s blood to survive.  So they are chasing their family around and they are trying to get away.  And their dog becomes a ghost.  All the Goosebumps are my favorite books.  I also like Magic Tree House Books." Jye

"My favorite movie is Holes because at the end they find treasure and the warden tells them to open it and Stanley says no… he doesn’t say no he says “Excuse me?” just like the warden said all the time.  I really do love “Holes” – you should see it sometime!  It is also a favorite book!"  Janice

"My favorite book is I Spy.  It is cool because you get to find stuff and you can find all kinds of stuff.  My favorite movie is Charlie Brown because there is this dog named Snoopy and he is funny."  Austin

"How I Became a Pirate looks pretty interesting."

"The Ghost Next Door is my favorite."
