Elementary children will  meet at the same time on the deck with our Summer Reading Coordinator, Margie Leather. 

 

Preschoolers will continue Storytime in the library with volunteer Margia

 

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2006

11 a.m. Wednesdays, June 7 - August 2

**A snack & beverage will be served each week.

***Please provide an old t-shirt with your child's name written on it to serve as a smock.

June 7

Orientation & vote for summer chapter book

 

We will read one chapter of each of several books & then vote on which book we'll read for the duration of the 9-week program.

June 14

Pop-Up Cards for Father's Day

Children will make their own pop-up cards for dad.

June 21

Fossil-Making I

Children will retrieve an item that they want to preserve in plaster & set first layer.

June 28

Fossil-Making II

Children will pour second layer of plaster to complete their own fossils (to be unveiled the following week).

July 5

Braille Session

 We will introduce the Braille alphabet & make letters out of crackers, PB & chocolate chips.

July 12

Mini Desert Garden

Children will create their own mini desert garden using materials from the riverside.

July 19

Kite-Making I

We will begin making our own kites by building the frames & cutting wings.

July 26

Kite-Making II

We will assemble & decorate our kites today.

August 2

Picnic & Kite-Fly

Please bring a brown-bag lunch & watch our kites take flight!

Studies show that voluntary reading is the best way to establish good reading habits in children. This is best accomplished when kids get to choose their own books from a wide variety, such as that available at the public library. The statewide Summer Reading Program is a growing, annual event that reaches thousands of New Mexico children every year.
