Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue

The Jemez Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue works with its neighbors in La Cueva, Ponderosa, Zia Pueblo and Jemez Pueblo to provide fire suppression and medical emergency services to the Jemez Springs area. Emergency events are coordinated throughout Sandoval County by county emergency services in Bernalillo.
The JSVFDR always welcomes our fellow citizens to join the department. Help of all kinds is appreciated, not just limited to rushing into burning buildings, if that isn't your thing. Contact Acting Chief Robert Cart (505) 362-2496 for information about joining, training, or fire-wise advice. Fire and Rescue Captain Cheryl Ridlon 829-4376 is also available to answer questions.
Burn permits are issued by the clerk at the Village Office in Jemez Springs. For information call 829-3540 during business hours. You may also call 829-3131 if you would like to arrange to have apparatus and personnel standing by at your burn site. Citizens engaged in burning also need to make sure that it is an authorized burn day for Sandoval County by calling 800-898-2876.
As an alternative to burning there are often designated "chipper" dates and places listed in the Jemez Thunder newspaper. The GEJWUIC website also has useful information for area fire prevention and wood fuel mitigation programs.
Thank you for your cooperation and community support!
